The heat remains the main story, the chances of storm go back

An isolated bubble storm will remain possible in southern and southeast Kansas this evening due to warm temperatures and an uncapped environment. If one forms, it will not remain sustained for long. Most of us are expecting a warm evening with windy conditions to the west. Lows tonight remain mild in the 60s and below the 70s.

These winds also remain stronger on Sunday. Most of us expect winds between 15 and 20 mph and even up to 30 mph sustained in western Kansas. Gusts could reach 40 to 50 mph this way.

This plus a combination of dry air and fairly dry ground, there is an increased fire danger near the Kansas-Colorado border on Sunday, no burns!

Sunday’s highs still look warm around or above average for this time of year. We will pull back a few degrees, but the intense heat and humidity will remain in place. Lower to upper 90 for afternoon highs.

A few erratic thunderstorms are on the table late Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening. Our next upper level disturbance will allow a few storms to erupt in western Kansas with some activity further east. It doesn’t seem like a big deal and most will still stay dry. Sunday night plans just keep an eye on the sky.

After Sunday evening, our model remains fairly active for various parts of the state through Thursday. These are not great storm systems, but multiple waves will bring uneven storm chances. Again, severe weather doesn’t seem likely with most of this, but a few showers and gusty winds aren’t out of the question.

The heat also persists all week to come! There’s not much relief in sight. Keep practicing these heat precautions, as many of our next few days will have dangerous heat indices. Heat advisories will likely continue intermittently throughout the week.
