Story Homes has submitted a hybrid planning application to build up to 283 new homes in Cottam.

The house builder is applying for full planning permission for 163 houses on the northern plot and planning permission for up to 120 houses on the southern plot of land at Lea Road – just next to the proposed new Cottam Parkway railway station.

The proposals offer a variety of one to five bedroom homes from the Story collection, a range of homes with flexible and open living spaces.

The site is considered to be permanently located; frequent bus services are available from Lea Road at Summer Trees Avenue serving Preston city centre, Blackpool and the Royal Preston Hospital.

Senior Land Manager for Story Homes in the North West, Martin Nugent, said: “Following public consultation, we have submitted a hybrid planning application to Preston City Council.

“The program has been carefully designed to reflect the aesthetics of the local area and will include a fitted play area and connected open spaces, as well as a linear green corridor and attractive new street scenes using high quality materials.

“The land in the northern plot has also been reserved for the future Cottam Parkway station, proposals for which are currently being worked on by Lancashire County Council. We expect a decision towards the end of 2022, with a view to starting on site in the spring of 2023 if our proposals are successful.

It is a key site for Story Homes, the homebuilder focusing on growth in Preston following the success of its current developments in the area, D’Urton Manor and Waterside.

Martin said: “Our other developments in the area have proven popular with our clients and demand for our homes in Preston has been high. This site will enable us to continue to bring more of our high quality homes to Preston and help meet local housing demand.

Story Homes said there will be benefits to the local economy during the construction phase of the new development due to direct and indirect employment opportunities through contractors and supply chains, as well as increased demand for local services when new homes are occupied.
