Hollywood Unlocked Blog Founder Jason Lee Backs Queen’s Death Story

Jason Lee, the founder of the American blog hollywood unblocked, supports her outlet’s false report that the Queen is deceased.

Buckingham Palace announced on Sunday (February 20) that the Queen has tested positive for coronavirus and is “experiencing mild symptoms of a cold, but plans to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week”.

On Tuesday, February 22, hollywood unblocked posted a story on their site called “HU Exclusive: Queen Elizabeth Dead”.

The first paragraph of the story – which, at the time of writing, is still online on the website – reads: “Socialists, it is with our deepest regret to inform you that the Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain has died.

“Sources close to the Royal Kingdom have exclusively informed us that Queen Elizabeth has passed away. She was to attend the wedding of British vogue editor Edward Enninful, but was found dead.

Shortly after the story was published, blog founder Lee responded to criticism of the story, insisting, “We don’t post lies and I stick to my sources.”

“Awaiting an official statement from the palace,” he added.

On Wednesday morning (February 23), a Twitter account with the @hwoodunlocked handle, posing as the outlet, shared its “deepest apologies” to the Royal Family in a tweet, calling the mistake an “embarrassing situation “.

“It was an accident and we’re working hard to make sure this mistake never happens again,” the tweet read. “The intern journalist was misinformed and published the draft message by mistake.”

While several publications attributed the apology to hollywood unblocked, Lee doubled down on his false statement and called the account that posted the apology “false.”

In a new tweet on Wednesday morning (February 23), Lee wrote, “I woke up to a fake account posting a retraction. We do not know this account and we have not retracted our story. There has been no official statement from the Palace yet. Stay tuned.

His tweet was shared by hollywood unblocked‘s real account, which has the handle @HollywoodUL.

On Wednesday, the Queen held her weekly phone call with Boris Johnson despite the Covid-19.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “Her Majesty spoke to the Prime Minister this evening.”
