Jonathan Kasdan has spoken of wanting to use Boba Fett in Solo, but he’s been told the character is “off limits”.
There were many factors on Solo: A Star Wars Story who failed to connect with audiences and critics, but would a Boba Fett appearance have helped the much-criticized Star wars previous movie? It looks like it might have been a possibility if the writers had been allowed to use the character, but according to Jonathan Kasdan, co-writer of the 2018 film, the character was “off limits” to them. As we are set to see Boba Fett get his own spinoff series in Boba Fett’s book making his Disney + debut this week, it’s clear the fan-favorite could have made a return to the franchise much sooner.
Solo: A Star Wars Story came on the heels of the popular Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and was to be the second in a long series of new Star wars movies that also reportedly included Ewan McGregor’s rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, which has since evolved into the Disney + series that will arrive next year. While Solo became a commercial and critical mess, the film has its fans and has grown into a cult following which considers it one of the most underrated films of the Star wars cannon.
Taking audiences back to Han Solo’s early years, before acquiring the Millennium Falcon and becoming the best friend of a certain Wookie, the film featured a young and idealistic Solo before he became the cranky character seen in the movie. ‘original. Star wars trilogy. One thing notably missing from the film’s recall references is any mention of Solo’s connection to bounty hunter Boba Fett and the rivalry between the two. Additionally, it was evident that there were very few mentions to any named bounty hunters from Star Wars canon although their inclusion was one that certainly would have fleshed out the story a bit more and perhaps toned down some of the aspects. the most disappointing which has become more of a topic of discussion of the film in general.
Now in an interview with the New York Times, Kasdan may have given some insight as to why these avenues have not been fully explored. Although he wants to make Fett history, Kasdan said:
“Boba was always off limits because he was developing elsewhere.”
It is now evident that the mentioned evolution concerned The Mandalorian and Boba Fett’s book, with The MandalorianThe first season debuts in 2019 on Disney + when she teased Fett in the fifth episode of the first season. When Fett debuted in Season 2, there was clearly a big plan for the character that had been in place for a long time. In Boba Fett’s book, fans will be able to see many elements of Fett’s story come into play, such as how he survived his apparent death in Return of the Jedi, and how he tries to take over the criminal underworld after the death of Jabba the Hutt. In the end, if there had been a clear choice between Fett being part of Solo: A Star Wars Story or get your own spinoff series, then it probably turned out for the best.
Boba Fett’s book debuts on Disney + on December 29.
